Synopsis:
As the world has long been overcrowded, the action of venturing into the universe to seek a new homeland becomes a matter of great urgency. While everything is advancing in an orderly manner, the lunar phases suddenly undergo abnormal changes and the ground beneath erupts intense geological changes that last for decades. As a result, humanity is left with only a handful of survivors in this catastrophe. When people step onto this familiar yet strange land again from the ruins and abysses after everything returns to peace, they start to wonder if they can still dominate this world as they used to.

Post-Apocalypse story and the effort human do for survival
What I Like
- It’s a post-apocalypse story that has interesting world building with all the Extremozoan, Manna Eco, Anima, Abyss Walker, Lighthouse, etc.
- Ling Cage featured a lot of interesting and important female characters. I love women. I particularly really like Bai Yuekui, Ran Bing & Maidou.
- It has quite a heavy theme. I think the main question raised by this donghua is how much would you sacrifice your humanity for survival? To survive, human in Lighthouse enacted 3 Great Laws. The survivor on the ground in Dragonbone village also do a lot of unethical experiments. I understand they have their own reason to implement those laws & desperate situations call for desperate measures, but I still really against it. It does make me wonder tho, what would human in this modern world do if we face the same situation.

My Other Comments
Tbh, it took quite a long time for me to finish the season 1 compare to season 2, because season 1 is quite depressing for me. I really dislike the 3 Great Laws:
- Gene optimization (actually more like eugenics, where there’s stratification in society based on your genes where your living condition are determined by whether your gene is deemed as superior or inferior),
- Collective Cultivation and Education; and
- The final journey (when you’re old, you will be discarded to the ground).
Season 1 is basically the introduction of the world building in this donghua. Overall, season 1 is good and I especially like the last episode. Things moving more excitingly in season 2.
Other Fun Facts
- Ling Cage is an award-winning animation that won Golden Dolphin Award & 16th CACC Golden Dragon Award (Bronze) .
- It is an original donghua (not adapted from novel or manhua).
