What I Like

• I like the art style & visual of this donghua. The Victorian steampunk aesthetic is perfectly captured. The detailed backgrounds are beautiful.
• The music is really good. Aside from the visual, the music also help the donghua exudes an air of mystery.
• A lot of characters here are lovely, although not all of them well fleshed out but some of them impress me, especially Captain Dunn Smith. Klein as the protagonist also lovely.
• I love Klein’s family. I wish Melissa & Benson have more screentime.

My Other Comments

I saw quite a lot of people compaint about the plot’s pacing, but I honestly ok with it. As a donghua-only watcher, I can still follow and understand the story. But I do think they probably cut a lot of things from the novel and compress a lot of chapters into a few episodes. For example, the first meeting of the Tarot Club. I think it’s too short. I mean it’s the time they first gather & end up becoming a secret club/ organization, right? Klein seems quite calm while Audrey & Alger seems too readily to accept The Fool without much questioning. I was like, “eh, you promised to meet up regularly just like that?”. This is my reaction to several plot points & I think it’s probably because the donghua cut a lot of conversation or scenes.

• Lord of Mysteries donghua is adapted from an award-winning novel. It is one of the most famous novel in Qidian that selected as one of the Yuewen 10th Anniversary IP of Glory winners at the Yuewen Global IP Awards 2024. The donghua itself has won 22nd CACC Golden Dragon Award.
• The author of this novel, Cuttlefish That Loves Diving, participate as the voice of one character here, which I think very apt.
