Synopsis:

It follows the journey of Lin Qiye, a blind high school student who unexpectedly becomes a night watchman, tasked with protecting the nation from “mystical” invasions as the mist descends and gods reawaken. What I Like

The characters are interesting & lovely. Never in my life I have a whopping number of favorite characters. Lin Qiye is one of my fave protagonist, especially after I read the novel.
Interesting world building. I just like how the protagonist has a psychiatric hospital – and not just an ordinary one. It’s a psychiatric hospital for gods😂.
The fights are exciting & interesting. With nice music. The 1st time I watch this donghua, it blew me away.
A good balance of action, comedy, & touching story.
While some people can argue that Slay The Gods has similar trope with famous shonen anime (e.g. training camp, group of friends/squad, death of senior figure that propel the protagonist to embark his adventure), but they do it perfectly that it become something I really like instead.

My Other Comments

This donghua crammed 143 novel chapters to 15 episodes, so they cut quite a lot of scenes. Most of the time it’s easy to understand, but sometimes it might make people confuse when this donghua only mention some things briefly.
They add & change some scenes from the original novel, which I don’t really mind. But some of it weaken the logic. For example, Lin Qiye has bad shooting skills. He can’t shoot to save his life😂. But in the added scenes at Ancient God Church, he suddenly can shoot well.
There’s quite some translation mistake in the English subtitle of this donghua.
While I understand the reason why season 1 is only 15 episodes, I still think it will have better impact if they adapted the whole volume 1 of the novel into season 1 with 30 episodes or more.

Slay The Gods is an award-winning animation. From winning several Best Animation awards in White Horse Awards, Golden Puffer Awards, Golden Swan Awards, Golden Penguin Awards, to being nominated in the Magnolia Awards. It won Animation IP of the Year in 2025 Weibo Culture Night. National Radio and Television Administration of China also put it on the List of Outstanding Works in 2024 (animation).
It is the fastest IP to donghua adaptation. The novel start in 2021, end in 2023 & the donghua broadcasted in 2024.
