Synopsis:

Ma’am flower, a Deity of Ruins, lost her daughter. Unable to accept reality, she was deceived by the villain “Yixie” into planting a mystical herb that could “resurrect the dead.”

Years later, the herb grew into a living mountain—Linglong Mountain. All living beings within a radius of dozens of miles mutated due to its curse. The young Taoist priest, Xiaoyu, ventured out to find his master and mistakenly entered Linglong Mountain, where he discovered its secret. As the mountain matured, the little girl who was said to have died will soon be resurrected.

  • Beautiful animation. The art is gorgeous.
  • Story about monsters and mythology

What I Like

  • The animation looks like a Chinese painting, like a hand-painted one. The art is gorgeous, with excellent use of color, rich and layered.
  • The character design also unique.
  • I really like Linglong! She’s very cute and kind. It’s too bad that she already died. I like his friendship with Xiao Yu.
  • The plot is sufficiently interesting. It took inspiration from Chinese mythology. I would like to know more about the other Deity of Ruins. The relationship between Linglong and his mom, & Xiaoyu sacrifice are also touching.

My Other Comments

The running time for the whole 12 episode of this donghua is only a little over 2 hours. They create such a gorgeous world, but there’s not much information due to its limited time to convey the story. Therefore it feels a bit underdevelop for me. I mean the story. I feel like there’s so much can be explored from the story.

Other Fun Facts

  • This donghua is build upon the worldview of China’s ancient classic, The Classic of Mountains and Seas.
  • The animation utilizes a traditional Chinese ink painting and heavy-color mineral pigment art styles, combining 3D rendering with 2D hand-painted special effects, and is accompanied by folk rock music, creating a unique Chinese aesthetic.
