What I Like
- To be honest, there’s a lot of things that I dislike from this donghua. Nevertheless, I can watch this donghua until the latest episode in quite a short time, so there must be something in it that I like. Maybe because like typical action fantasy story, this donghua is actually quite exciting.
- My favorite character in this donghua is the Jiu You bird. She’s beautiful, fierce, resilient and sometimes sarcastic but she has save the protagonist live numerous times.

My Other Comments
- The first time I watched this donghua, I was actually quite surprised because it was released in 2023, but the quality of the animation isn’t that good. I don’t expect the animation to be top-notch, but at least it shouldn’t be as stiff as the 1st season of this donghua.
- The animation in season 2 is better than in season 1, but they changed the model for Mu Chen and Luo Li. Sometimes when I watch season 2, I question whether those two are actually the same characters as in season 1 😂. The change just throws me off.
- My biggest gripe with this donghua is how predictable and cliché it is 😂. Every time an enemy attacks his friend, you know Mu Chen will come in the nick of time to save the day (with his personal OST blasting in the background). There’s also the familiar trope of “fighting with the enemy and then turning them into your friend.”
- The power system in this donghua is clear to me, but sometimes it irks me how a level that feels so devastatingly dangerous in a previous arc looks like child’s play in the future arc.
Other Fun Facts
The Great Ruler is adapted from a popular novel. It shares the same universe as Fights Break Sphere / Battle Through the Heavens and Martial Universe. The protagonist of Fights Break Sphere appears in this donghua as the Flame Emperor.
