Story about social issues in modern society, bullying, and depression

What I Like

  • This donghua addresses topics that are quite uncommon in other series, offering social commentary on modern society.
  • The main character, Han Yuxi, has significant character development. Although sometimes I think she’s making dumb decision, but honestly real women in real life are often like that regarding love, particularly when you have low self-esteem. It’s easy as a spectator to say things like “you should love yourself”, “appearance isn’t the most important thing in the world”, etc. But how would you love yourself when your environment often mock you, make you feel worthless & there’s nothing you like about yourself? It’s really hard for someone like Han Yuxi who is a self-loathing person to finally able to stand tall.
  • This donghua also portrayed how it feels like to have someone who obssessed with you (not only 1 but 2. Scary). It also highlight the danger of social media on your mental health.

My Other Comments

I feel like watching this donghua makes me more aware about the bias most people have towards victims. A lot of people support a perfect victim. But when the victim isn’t as pure as they think, people quick to retract their support. Or even worse, they turned to insult the victim. In this donghua, Han Yuxi isn’t a perfect victim. She fell in love with a scumbag just because good looks and some nice words. She deluded herself, or maybe she knows that she was used by the scumbag, but vanity, fear of loneliness and desire to be like make her stay. She decide to undergo a plastic surgery and this gave people impression that she’s a vain person. So glad that the scumbag end in jail. In donghua, justice is served, but how about in real life? So many women still struggle with this kind of scumbag.

Other Fun Facts

This donghua is adapted from a manhwa by Kim Tam Mi. It’s quite rare for donghua to adapt South Korean IP.
