Story of friendship (this donghua is BL code albeit not a danmei)

What I Like

  • This donghua is set during the transition from the Xia dynasty to the Shang dynasty. The main character, Youshen Bupo, is inspired by the historical figure King Tai Jia of Shang. Tai Jia (Zi Zhi) is the grandson of King Tang of Shang. King Jie of Xia, a tyrant, was overthrown by King Tang who then established Shang dynasty. Following this, Tai Jia succeeded his grandfather to ascend the throne. In the history, King Tai Jia treated his people badly and broke laws that he was exiled by his prime minister, Yi Yin, for several years, before he finally change his way & reinstated as a king again. A lot of donghua I know was based on historical events, but this donghua is the first one I know that set in Xia & Shang dynasty. So I found it interesting.
  • Jiang Li is beautiful. Mi Ya is very cute. Luo Ling has interesting power albeit underuse in this donghua. It’s too bad her design is very ordinary & she doesn’t have much prominence yet. She hasn’t appear often but I already like her.

My Other Comments

  • Tbh, the villains feels more like caricature than actual person. I just don’t get their logic whatsoever. I mean, the 1st villain want to take revenge because a beast/demon kill his father. But rather than killing the murderer, he is more hell bent in destroying the city? The 2nd villain was in prison for 18 years and he can actually pull a prison break just like that?
  • Luo Ling has a mission for her master, but it feels like she forget about the mission and following the protagonists just because.
  • Somehow Jiang Li in the first part of this series is being made as “damsel in distress” rather than equal partner. Things got better after that where he got more spotlight in the later part. But I wish the story do that from the start.
