Synopsis:
The Yellow River, Yangtze River, and Lancang River originate from the same source, and three families known as “Water Wraiths” (Ding, Jiang, and Yi) live along the river. What are “Water Wraiths”? They can move freely in the water and possess the skills of geomancy, feng shui, and treasure hunting. Yi Sa, the last Water Wraith of the Yi family, runs an “underwater bank” business along the Lancang River. During a “Golden Vault” excavation, Yi Sa encounters and saves Zong Hang. To uncover the truth of what happened and to save himself, Yi Sa trains Zong Hang to become a Water Wraith, and together with Ding Yudie, a Water Wraith from the Ding family, the three enter the “Ancestral Golden Vault.”

What I Like
- It’s rare for me to see a donghua about underwater treasure trove business and mystery surrounding the families engage in this service. Where do people save their treasure to avoid tax & scrutiny? Some rich people choose to save it in underwater cave. There are 3 family that operate this business in 3 rivers, Yi, Jiang and Ding. In each family, there will be individual with exceptional talent that will serve as water wraith. Each water wraith can freely move in water without breathing & they have method to save the treasure then retrieve it safely.
- I like Yi Sa, who is tough on the outside but gentle on the inside. Although I dislike her a bit at first because her cold and uncaring demeanor, it’s due to trauma of losing all her Yi Family in a massacre 21 years ago. Later on you will see how strong and desicive she is. I also dislike Zong Hang at first because he’s too naive. But later I see that he’s loyal and courageous.
My Other Comments
- This donghua only cover half the story and end in a clifhanger.
- Sometimes I feel theres’ something not logical. For example, the golven vault is made from Xirang earth/resting soil, a magical soil in Chinese mythology. In this donghua, it can’t be destroyed using explosions, but it can be destroyed by fire. I was like “???” The character said, “The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Water fears xirang earth, so what element fears water? Fire. So fire can destroyed xirang earth”. I was like “what??”
- In the beginning of the donghua, there was an uncle that search for his missing daughter. It turns out she has died & become dead nursery. I thought this incident will have meaning, but it’s not relevant to the main mystery in the donghua until the end.

This donghua is adapted from a novel by Wei Yu. It also has adapted into movie.
